In September, ArcelorMittal Zenica applied for monthly achievements in the field of H&S, which are rewarded at the corporate level. The project was made by the Electro energetic & automation department, CAPEX department, and Mechanical workshop.
Namely, during the Take care session (TCT), there was one unsafe situation reported by the electrician related to unsafe working at height. During inspections or any activities where the transformer has to be stopped, the operator has to climb on the transformer (4-5 m height) with one side mobile wooden ladder to perform earthing, before erecting the scaffolding. There was a potential risk of falling from the height since this ladder is not very stable and practicable.
This unsafe situation has been checked together with Abdulah Mandžuka, an employee who reported it during TCT, an analysis of possible solutions have been done and implementation of the new fixed ladder with the platform has been completed on 3 transformer station (8 transformers). In this way risk of falling from the height is mitigated.
Team members for implementation:
– Abdulah Mandžuka – Electro energetic & automation
– Ermin Čerim– Electro energetic & automation
– Admir Šarić – Electro energetic & automation
– Izet Ohran – Mechanical workshop
– Faik Isaković – Mechanical workshop
– Adnan Panjević – CAPEX department
MAIN H&S ACHIEVEMENT
Using TCT feedback as a resource for mitigating the risk of falling from a height.
OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS
Risk management improvement (prevention of overturning and falling from the ladder)
A positive example of communication on a different level
Teamwork
In-house project starting from the initial idea till the final step
