ArcelorMittal Zenica is the largest producer of long products in the Balkans with a production capacity of almost one million tons per year, as well as the largest foreign investor in the country. It is one of the key drivers of the economy in Bosnia and Herzegovina contributing to the BDP of Bosnia and Herzegovina by 2,5%.
The factory is integrated steel production, using iron ore and the process is made in coke plant, blast furnace, steel plant, while finished goods is produced in the rolling mills.
ArcelorMittal Zenica mainly use iron ore from Prijedor and in that way ensure 900 jobs in the mine there.

Jobs and business with local companies
In Zenica itself, the Company employs directly more than 2.300 people, but the number of indirect employees amounts around 12.000 due to the large number of local companies that base their business on cooperation with us.
Our annual salaries and related contributions amount 60 mil KM. In the period 2005 to 2021 the Company paid around 1 billion KM for salaries and contributions.
There are more than 600 such local suppliers to which ArcelorMittal Zenica pays over 250 mil KM for their services on annual basis. Some of them, such as Railways of RS has 50% of their annual turnover thanks to business with ArcelorMittal Zenica, while Railways of Federation reach 30% of its turnover.
Since 2004, the Company paid its suppliers total of 5,5 billion KM.

Investments
Since its coming to Bosnia and Herzegovina, in December 2004, ArcelorMittal Zenica’s total investments have exceeded 465 million KM. Out of that, around 200 mil KM has been invested in numerous projects related to improvement of environment.
ArcelorMittal Zenica invested 100 mil KM in Toplana Zenica, the brand-new power plant which is working purely on internal gases (blast furnace and coke gas), producing heat energy for ArcelorMittal Zenica and Zenica city heating. Toplana Zenica is join venture company, owned 50% by ArcelorMittal Zenica, 30% by Finland based companies and 20% by City Zenica. It is important to know that ArcelorMittal Zenica and Toplana Zenica cannot work without each other.
This project is equally important for the city heating, energy efficiency and environmental protection in Zenica. Loans provided from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development were guaranteed by the ArcelorMittal Group.
Its long-term plans of staying in Bosnia and Herzegovina the Company proved in 2018 by implementing a historic project for the steel factory, the Blast Furnace Overhaul, thus extending the life of integrated steel production in Zenica for the next 20 years.

Environment
As already mentioned, since its beginning in 2005, the Company has invested more than 200 million KM in environmental protection projects, including the Toplana project.
These invested resulted in significant improvement of environment in Zenica, so now the Company is 100% complied on SOX and NOX emissions.
The dust and diffused emission are only present on Coke Plant and Sinter Plant; but will be mostly solved in 2022.
Since November 2021, when Toplana Zenica started using only gas boilers and when usage of coal was completely eliminated, SO2 emissions from the plant were reduced by about 90%.
Health and safety at work are priority no. 1, which is why more than one million KM are invested in this segment every year. Workers have constant training and coaching, both in the field of occupational safety and various other trainings that can help them in their daily work.
So far, ArcelorMittal Zenica has implemented more than 400 projects and donations in the local community. Since 2005, the company has been helping more than 80,000 users with amount over 2.5 million KM.
