In the week of April 22-26, 2024, ArcelorMittal Zenica realized various activities to mark the Health and Safety Day 2024, and as a final ceremony, on April 26, 2024, the Awarding Ceremony was held for an exceptional contribution to the improvement of H&S performance. In addition, the corporate film „Health and Safety Day 2024“ was shown, which conveys the opinions on “Believe in zero” and the experiences of colleagues from different units across ArcelorMittal (COMING SOON).
At the group level, this year’s key message of Health and Safety Day is “Believe in zero”. Why ‘Believe in Zero’ and what do we mean by ‘zero’? We need to be a zero fatality and zero serious injury company. There are many ways in which to do that, but they all start with belief. If we do not believe zero is an achievable outcome, we will never reach it. Belief is of course not enough by itself. It needs to be supported by rigour, hard work and commitment, every single day.
In ArcelorMittal Zenica, daily efforts are directed towards the most important goal – to make zero happen. On this occasion, the Company’s management handed over awards to 85 employees from various departments: Sinter plant, Blast Furnace, Rolling Mills, Quality Control, Transportation, Profit Center, Steel Plant, Electrical Power and Automation, Maintenance of the Primary Area of Production, as well as colleagues from Toplana Zenica, who have significantly contributed to health and safety at work. Awarded workers distinguished themselves with their activities, and actions in preventing incidents and injuries at work, and thus showed by personal example that safety at work is really a priority in performing work tasks.
The purpose of today is not to dwell on that, but rather to take stock of progress – both internal and with the 3rd party dss+ audit currently underway – and further galvanise the entire organisation to achieve zero. Now is the time we must all believe, commit, act and make zero happen. We need every single one of our employees to be fully involved, committed and engaged. It’s a 24/7 mindset, 24/7 working. Together, we can succeed.
